Welcome to Shark Cordless Vacuum! In our detailed shark cordless vacuum review, we tested the new Shark Stratos extensively after purchasing it this week. Not only does it come packed with more features than any other Shark cordless vacuum we’ve tried, but its performance also outshines all previous models we reviewed.
The Shark Cordless Stratos Vacuum Line
Shark Stratos vacuum cleaners come in multiple models, each designed to meet different cleaning needs. In this shark cordless vacuum review, we’re focusing on the Stratos Shark Cordless Vacuum, which has impressed us with its advanced features and performance. Another noteworthy model is the Shark Stratos Upright, a corded full-size vacuum that excelled in all the tests we conducted.
About the Detect Pro Cordless
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we explored the Shark Cordless Detect Pro, which comes in at least two different sets. The version we purchased included a vacuum cleaner, an adapter, and a storage clip.
However, there’s also a plan featuring an auto-empty station, known as the Shark Cordless Detect Pro Auto-Empty System. This version appears to be the same vacuum but includes an additional stand that automatically empties the trash, adding extra convenience.

Pros
Lightweight
One of the standout advantages we noticed in this shark cordless vacuum review is the exceptional weight and feel of the handle, which weighs just under 1,200 grams. This lightweight design makes it approximately 30% lighter than the average Shark cordless stick vacuum and nearly half the weight of the Dyson Gen5detect. The significant weight reduction enhances the overall user experience, making it easier to handle and maneuver during cleaning.
It stands out as one of the lightest cordless stick vacuums we’ve ever tested, packed with practical technology that enhances its performance and usability. This Shark cordless vacuum combines lightweight design with advanced features, making it a top choice for effortless cleaning.
Floorhead Design Shark cordless vacuum
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we discovered that the floorhead is designed to keep the vacuum lightweight and easy to handle. The swivel function makes it simple to maneuver, giving it a balanced and comfortable feel. From our experience, this Shark cordless stick vacuum is one of the easiest to use, making cleaning a breeze.
Pickup Ability
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we were impressed by the innovative design of the new floorhead. It effectively combines a soft roller and a standard roller, with an extra-tall front gate that lets larger debris pass through easily. This feature improves the Shark cordless vacuum’s performance, making it perfect for handling various types of messes.
Shark has named this new cleaning head QuadClean, building on the success of its previous DuoClean design. Like the DuoClean models, including the Vertex Pro Cordless and Stratos Cordless, the Shark Cordless Detect Pro excels at cleaning hard floors. Its advanced design ensures top-notch performance, making it an ideal choice for maintaining spotless surfaces.
We tested the Shark Cordless Detect Pro with a variety of debris, including sand, different sizes of cereal, and kitty litter. This cordless vacuum efficiently picks up fine debris and pet hair while easily managing larger particles. Notably, the same impressive performance was observed on carpets, making it a versatile cleaning solution for any home.
It delivered outstanding results in our Crevice Pickup and Carpet Deep Clean tests, showcasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Shark Cordless Detect Pro. Its powerful suction ensures thorough cleaning in tight spaces and deep within carpet fibers.
Anti-Hair Tangle
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we found that the Shark cordless vacuum is equipped with Shark’s anti-hair tangle system. This innovative feature includes small combs that actively clear hair from the roller while in use. During our tests with both 7-inch and 14-inch hair samples, the system performed almost flawlessly, ensuring smooth operation without hair buildup.
Detect Features
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we note the growing popularity of automatically adjusting cordless vacuums, which optimize both battery life and performance. Dyson has led the charge with their V15 Detect and V12 Detect models, which are among the brand’s most popular choices for efficient cleaning.
However, the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro is unique, as it’s the first one we’ve seen to utilize both a particle counter and a floor type detection system. This system adjusts both suction and brush speed, which is a first in our experience.
Wall Sensors
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we highlight Shark’s integration of sensors on both sides of the floorhead, designed to detect proximity to walls. As the vacuum nears a wall, it automatically boosts its suction power, enhancing edge cleaning.
Thanks to its advanced automatic suction and brush roll speed adjustment technology, along with edge detection, the Shark Cordless Vacuum Detect Pro truly lives up to the “Detect” in its name, delivering efficient and thorough cleaning on all surfaces.
HEPA Filtration
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we appreciate Shark’s complete seal HEPA filtration technology, which ensures that what’s vacuumed up stays securely contained, preventing any leakage back into the environment. This feature is especially valuable, considering the vacuum’s price point, providing both high performance and peace of mind.
Display
LED rings located on the back of the handle light up when high levels of debris are detected. As sections are cleaned, these rings change color.
An easily detachable battery is included, and we anticipate that Shark will offer replacement batteries on their website in the future.
Price
While the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro is not a budget option, its price is approximately half of what one might expect to pay for a typical Dyson. If you can work with the limitations mentioned later in this review, we believe it offers tremendous value.
Cons
Moving on to potential downsides, battery life might be a concern for some.
Battery Life
In this shark cordless vacuum review, one of the drawbacks is the battery runtime. Shark claims a 40-minute runtime on low power, which is slightly below average compared to other models. When running on max power mode, we found the runtime to be just under fifteen minutes. If you use the vacuum in its Detect mode, which automatically adjusts power levels, the runtime will fall somewhere between these two extremes.
Dustbin Capacity
In this shark cordless vacuum review, one potential downside is its smaller dustbin capacity of around 330 milliliters, which is somewhat below average. While this is in line with other Shark cordless stick vacuums, it may require more frequent emptying during larger cleaning sessions.
Power
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we observed that the Shark Cordless Vacuum Detect Pro scored below average in several raw power metrics during our tests. However, this didn’t impact its pickup ability or deep cleaning performance. While the power may be lower, the vacuum’s cleaning ability remained strong, ensuring effective cleaning across various surfaces.
Attachments
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we found that the version we purchased only included a crevice tool. Given its lightweight design and ease of use, we expected additional attachments, such as a dusting brush or upholstery tool. These may be available in the version bundled with the auto-empty station.
Another consideration is the placement of the LED lights on the floorhead. While the vacuum does have LED lights, their positioning at the top doesn’t significantly help in illuminating debris, which could be a drawback for cleaning in dimly lit areas.
Conclusion
In this shark cordless vacuum review, we conclude that we’re genuinely impressed with the Shark cordless vacuum. It stands out as one of the lightest cordless stick vacuums we’ve ever tested, packed with practical technology that enhances the overall cleaning experience. The new Shark floorhead design is a standout feature, potentially outperforming the DuoClean head in terms of performance and versatility.
All of this comes at a price we consider highly competitive for a vacuum cleaner with such an impressive set of features.
