Welcome to shark cordless vacuum and our review of the new Shark Stratos We put the one we bought this week through a lot of tests and found that it not only has more features than any other Shark cordless vacuum we’ve tried, but it also performed better than all of them.
The Shark Cordless Stratos Vacuum Line
Shark Stratos vacuum cleaners are available in multiple models. The Stratos Shark Cordless Vacuum is the item we are currently reviewing. The second vacuum is the Shark Stratos Upright, a corded full-size vacuum that performed exceptionally well in each of the tests we conducted.
About the Detect Pro Cordless
There are at least two different sets of the Shark Cordless Detect Pro. The one we bought came with a vacuum cleaner, an adapter, and a clip for storage.
There is, however, a plan that includes an auto-empty station. It’s known as the Shark Cordless Detect Pro Auto-Empty System. It’s the one we linked to. It seems to be the same vacuum, but it has an extra stand that emptys the trash

Pros
Lightweight
The first advantage we observed was the exceptional weight and feel of the handle, which weighs in at just under 1,200 grams. This makes it incredibly lightweight, approximately 30% lighter than the average Shark cordless stick vacuum and nearly half the weight of the new Dyson Gen5detect. This significant difference in weight is truly noticeable, enhancing the overall user experience.
It stands out as one of the lightest cordless stick vacuums we’ve ever tested, packed with practical technology that enhances its performance and usability. This Shark cordless vacuum combines lightweight design with advanced features, making it a top choice for effortless cleaning.
Floorhead Design Shark cordless vacuum
The floorhead features an innovative design specifically aimed at reducing the overall weight of the vacuum. Its responsive swivel functionality ensures easy maneuverability, making it feel well-balanced during use. In our experience, this Shark cordless stick vacuum is one of the easiest to operate, providing a seamless cleaning experience.
Pickup Ability
The innovative design of the new floorhead is distinctive, effectively bridging the gap between a soft roller and a standard roller. It includes an extra-tall front gate, allowing larger debris to pass through effortlessly. This feature enhances the performance of the Shark cordless vacuum, making it an excellent choice for tackling various messes.
Shark has branded the new cleaning head as QuadClean, paying homage to its predecessor, the DuoClean. Similar to earlier DuoClean models, such as the Vertex Pro Cordless and Stratos Cordless, the Shark Cordless Detect Pro excels as a vacuum cleaner on hard floors. Its advanced design ensures optimal performance, making it a top choice for maintaining clean surfaces.
We tested the Shark Cordless Detect Pro with a variety of debris, including sand, different sizes of cereal, and kitty litter. This cordless vacuum efficiently picks up fine debris and pet hair while easily managing larger particles. Notably, the same impressive performance was observed on carpets, making it a versatile cleaning solution for any home.
It delivered outstanding results in our Crevice Pickup and Carpet Deep Clean tests, showcasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Shark Cordless Detect Pro. Its powerful suction ensures thorough cleaning in tight spaces and deep within carpet fibers.
Anti-Hair Tangle
The Shark cordless vacuum features Shark’s anti-hair tangle system, with small combs that actively clear hair from the roller during use. During our tests with both 7-inch and 14-inch hair samples, the system performed almost perfectly.
Detect Features
Automatically adjusting cordless vacuums have grown in popularity recently. These devices optimize battery life and performance. Dyson has led the way with their V15 Detect and V12 Detect models, which are among their most popular
However, the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro is unique, as it’s the first one we’ve seen to utilize both a particle counter and a floor type detection system. This system adjusts both suction and brush speed, which is a first in our experience.
Wall Sensors
Shark has also integrated sensors on both sides of the floor head to detect proximity to walls. When nearing a wall, the Shark cordless vacuum boosts its suction power, improving edge cleaning.
With its automatic suction and brush roll speed adjustment technology, along with edge detection, the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro truly lives up to the ‘Detect’ in its name.
HEPA Filtration
Shark’s complete seal HEPA filtration technology guarantees that what’s vacuumed up stays contained, preventing any leakage back into the environment. This is a crucial feature, especially considering its price point.
Display
LED rings located on the back of the handle light up when high levels of debris are detected. As sections are cleaned, these rings change color.
An easily detachable battery is included, and we anticipate that Shark will offer replacement batteries on their website in the future.
Price
While the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro is not a budget option, its price is approximately half of what one might expect to pay for a typical Dyson. If you can work with the limitations mentioned later in this review, we believe it offers tremendous value.
Cons
Moving on to potential downsides, battery life might be a concern for some.
Battery Life
Shark claims a 40-minute runtime on low power, which is slightly below average. We ran on max power mode for somewhat less than fifteen minutes. If you’re using the vacuum in its Detect mode, which auto-adjusts power levels, you’ll experience a runtime that falls between these two extremes.
Dustbin Capacity
Due to its lightweight design, the Shark cordless vacuum has a smaller dustbin capacity of around 330 milliliters. This is somewhat below average but consistent with other Shark cordless stick vacuums.
Power
In terms of raw power metrics, the Shark cordless vacuum Detect Pro scored below average in several of our tests. However, this didn’t affect its pickup ability or deep cleaning performance. So, while the power may be lower, its cleaning ability remained strong.
Attachments
The version we purchased included only a crevice tool. Considering its lightweight design and ease of use, we were expecting additional attachments like a dusting brush or upholstery tool. Some of these may be available in the version bundled with the auto-empty station.
Additionally, although the Shark cordless vacuum has LED lights on the floor head, their positioning at the top doesn’t significantly help illuminate debris.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we’re genuinely excited about the Shark cordless vacuum. It’s one of the lightest cordless stick vacuums we’ve ever tested, packed with practical technology. The new Shark floor head design is a standout feature, potentially even outperforming the DuoClean head.
All of this comes at a price we consider highly competitive for a vacuum cleaner with such an impressive set of features.
